Henry

This week at our art retreat, I worked on Henry's portrait. He will be 8 around Christmas, but I have made him look a bit older I fear. He has tossled hair, a huge smile, and hazel eyes so this is a pretty good likeness I think at this point. Just like the other portraits though, when I live with him a few days...I may have to adjust some things. One thing I know right now, I fiddled too much and lost some of the freshness that I had originally captured. But, all this experience is such fun and it's really challenging.

  1. Portrait painting may be quite challenging, but you are rising magnificently to meet that challenge, Mollie! I really love the light and the joy that you capture in your portraits...Congratulations! This is really well done.

  2. Thanks Christiane...I'm so new at this area of watercolor and you're right, it is challenging. But, I see new things with every one I paint and practice will improve my hand and eye hopefully. Sure is a fun subject though.

  3. You may think you fiddled with it too much but I can tell you this guy's personality SHINES through! He looks like a mischievous handful topped off with unfettered spunk! Am I right? He's wonderful Mollie!

  4. Thanks, Mary...not only is he an adorable little guy...he can program, build and run those really sophicated Lego thingies that are for 12-14 yr olds...soooo smart...and he is 8 in December. We have to be sure what we tell him is correct or he'll throw it back at you...'cause he usually knows!
