Christmas Cardinals

Thought I'd post my "probably finished" Christmas Cardinals. As usual, there will be some tweaks here and there to deal with after looking at this for a day or two. Just wanted to break some kind of record and post a WIP to the finished stage...I seem to be bad about not reposting when I'm finished. I have a new painting in the works that I'm anxious to get back to and it seems that I do better when I finish what's "on deck".

  1. Very nice with just enough foliage - and I like how you pushed some of it far into the bg by keeping it very pale.

  2. Beautiful Mollie, these are such amazing looking birds it must be wonderful to see them in the garden. Are they very common in the US?

  3. Mollie, your cardinals are beautiful. I like how you painted each one slightly differently. What a gorgeous card this will make.

  4. Thanks Rhonda...I was trying for some snow effects on the branches, but got carried away with the background colors.

Thanks, Tracy...yes, we have Cardinals year round here in East Texas. They are probably our most prominent bird...along with the BlueJays.

Thanks Christiane...the female Cardinal really has some good color IRL...just not so dramatic as I've got her here. Had to give her a bit more "makeup" than usual...ha.

  7. Mollie, I love your cardinals! we don't have them here. we used to see birds that had a red tuft, and the rest was brownish gray, Haven't seen one in years. The only fancy birds we see at our house are orioles....other than beautiful quail, and roadrunners.
In the summer we have a road runner that comes to our little pond every day.(in our back yard)
