Thought I'd show you an abstract that I painted for my son yesterday. Please keep in mind...I don't do abstracts!!! I'm a very realistic painter at heart, but when your son needs a painting and his mother happens to be an artist...he gets a painting. It is an acrylic, 30 x 40 in size which is large for me, and was done strictly for the colors that they use in their home. I'm so partial to reds and brighter colors that this was somewhat challenging in color selection, but they needed a really contemporary painting to go in their really contemporary home. We actually found a similar piece in a home decorating magazine and decided that this banded color technique would work really well...so...this will fit in perfectly in the hills of north Austin.

Very nice! Are you sure you could not include just a tiny, tiny spot of red :-) I think it would have been nice near the dark greens.
ReplyDeleteLucky son!
Ha! You're funny Christiane. I don't think they have one red thing in their whole house. I haven't even signed it yet as I'm not sure which way they'll hang it...I painted it for a vertical for their tall ceilings, but, who knows where it'll wind up??
ReplyDeleteMy Favorite Green!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing,
Irina
Thanks Irina...I like that light green a whole bunch too. I used Hooker green to darken that blue trying for a greenish tint and I did like that one also. Since I don't have many acrylics, I had to just use what I had in the studio and mixing acrylics/mediums isn't my strong suit for sure.
ReplyDeleteReally cool!
ReplyDeleteand now you have the bug.. will there be more? :)
That is really lovely. Definitely has a geological feel to it.
ReplyDeleteI like your abstract. Once in a while I do it to get away from my realism. Like your work.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments Pat, Sharon and Terry. It is rather fun to do something different ever now and then.

ReplyDeletenow ive seen everything.. my detailed friend doing an abstract.. looks good tho'.. which way did they hang it...???
ReplyDeleteCrazy huh, Cindi. They hung it vertically with the dark green band on the bottom (not the way I painted it, but after seeing it up the weight at the bottom was better).
